Do you fancy a Nuclear Penguin?

November 29, 2009 under Uncategorized

Now this is something interesting, Tactical Nuclear Penguin is the worlds strongest beer with a volume of 32%. Now this seems like a crazy strength, but for once BBC News has an almost balanced article about it all.

Managing director James Watt said a limited supply of Tactical Nuclear Penguin would be sold for £30 each. He said: “This beer is about pushing the boundaries, it is about taking innovation in beer to a whole new level.” Mr Watt added that a beer such as Tactical Nuclear Penguin should be drunk in “spirit sized measures”.

So Brewdog are saying, its crazy strong – like spirits can be – so drink it like vodka, whiskey and so on…

However Jack Law, of Alcohol Focus Scotland, described it was a “cynical marketing ploy” and said: “We want to know why a brewer would produce a beer almost as strong as whisky.”

Well Jack. Why not? Beer brewing can be an art form, no one is making anyone drink this stuff. In fact why isn’t anyone kicking about whiskey – because you could drink it in pint glasses if you wanted to.

Maybe Jack should drink some nanny state

Cairngorm Howler

Cairngorm Howler Beer Scotland avialable from Weatherspoons pubsIt is getting late.

So I shall be brief.

I’ve just got back from our local Weatherspoons pub, and I am quite disappointed that I’m working tomorrow. For this is a beautful beautiful beer from the heart of Scotland. A deep malty drink, with a slight spicey aftertaste I could have drank this well into tomorrow morning.

A truely enjoyable and drinkable beer.

Deuchars or Belhaven Best?

September 8, 2008 under Uncategorized

DeucharsWell over the last weekend I found myself with Dan in a random Scottish pub in Inverness. It was there when I really came across Scottish Beers on Tap for the first time. I had the choice of a pint of Deuchars IPA or Belhaven Best.

I put my trust in Dan, and ordered the IPA. He apologised very soon after. It had a hint of taste to it, but that was about it. There have been plenty of times before that I’ve not finished a pint. Normally because I’ve already had a few amount of beers already. This was the first time for a long time I’ve left one due to it tasting like bad pants.

Belhaven BestI moved onto a half of Belhaven Best. It was only a half due to warnings from Dan who had tried this stuff before. To be honest it was better. Probably the best comparison is its like a bitter pint of Worthingtons, but to be honest I’m glad it was only a half – I wouldn’t like a whole pint of this stuff at all.

So in answer to Deuchars or Belhaven Best? I would get something else to be be honest. Either a more trusted beer or just something totally different – like wine???
