Nice. Peaceful. With a view to die for.

… and a load of other Polish groceries as well…
…and its in Exeter! Yeah I was kinda shocked as well.
So if you’re interested in Polish Food and Beer (like Warka’s Strong), and live in Devon, I would suggest taking a trip to Exeter, wondering down Fore Street, and wonder towards The Picture House. You wont miss “The Polish Shop”, if you do, you might as well get a drink in The Picture House Bar instead…
Now, please dont judge me.
Over the weekend we found ourselves in the local Wetherspoons – we had vouchers to take advantage off… While we were there we came across Beeryani from The Exeter Brewery.
Its a confused little beer. On one hand theres not a huge amount of taste there – its almost like a cool crisp lager, but to look at it you’d think its a wheat beer from Europe…. but there really isn’t too much there to write home about.
I suppose the trust test is in the drinking. Dont drink it as a session beer, but have it to help keep you cool…. maybe while eating the Sweet Chilli Noodles?
Well from the looks of the this is exeter site, the Tarka Line Rail Ale Trail has been relaunched. I’m not altogether sure what it means as the website looks kinda like the last time I looked at it.
But (as long as I get a new booklet) I’m sure its a good excuse to go on what is basically a long pub crawl along the train line. Expect to see some more on the rail Ale Trail… if I can get a booklet to be stamped!
Not much to say on the Beer front… Tetleys or Carlsburg is what you get. BUT if you can stomach either of those beers, this is a fantastic little cafe to chill out in for a pint or two with a mate.
There is a good selection of wines, good menu, and a great welcome from the staff.
As far as the food is concerned, if you like burgers, you have to try The Living Room Burger. Its an Exmoor burger, with cheese, three onion rings, and a slice of bacon. Beautiful!
I would hate for people to think we were paid by Skinners to push their products, but I thought I had to follow up my review of Skinners Cornish Lager, I posted a few days ago.
If you find yourself in Exeter City Centre, The Old Well House on the Cathedral Green has it on tap!
Its beautiful and thirst quenching, but a little pricey – but it is a pricey pub anyway…
By the way if anyone from Skinners (or anywhere else) would like to send us beer to review -please feel free to use the above link to contact us!
Well its been a quiet one, but its been nice.
Hopefully the weather holds out till tomorrow so we can cycle along the Exe, fully intending to stop at the Prospect Inn on thee quay for some Otter Amber!
Edit:
Whats needed for a decent bank holiday?
Sun? After a blip this morning, I now have a little bit of tan trying to emerge.
Some nice activity? We hung out on the quay in Exeter a fair bit, and caught the boat from there down to double locks. Now taking the boat down the Exe is the way to travel in Exeter. Stuff buses and taxies!
BEER????? Well the Otter Amber is obviously popular at the prospect inn – the barrel needing a later afternoon change, but the headline beer of the weekend has to be Waggledance back on sale at the Double Locks. Its a Beautiful Beer which is perfect to drank from tap during a hot summers day.
May need to find our way back to Double Locks for the next bank holiday…
Yesterday I went to the Bowling Green with two people I support. Being their local pub, I thought it was worth seeing what the meals were like there.

Beers: I was pleased to see both Otter Ale and Jail Ale on tap!
Food: They had a board with the meals they serve. There was a good choice of meals, including many that were homemade, like the beef burger, lasagne, steak and ale pie… lots of pub grub. I noticed that the prices were really decent, with many under £6, and when we saw the size of the portions, we saw how good a price this was. I had the Thai fish cakes, with sauted potatoes and salad for £5.50. My only negative was that it said sauted potatoes and I got curly fries, but then I love curly fries, so not a worry!
Atmosphere: It was OK. We sat in the top section, which kept us away from some of the noise of the people at the bar, and not close enough to the door to the outside smoking area to be affected by breeze or smell. I really enjoyed the music playing.
Vote: 7/10.
Last note: I couldn’t find any pics of this pub online! For those who don’t know it, it’s on Blackboy Road, Exeter – near to the Odeon.
