Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe-in-the-Moor

The Rugglestone Inn, at Widecombe-in-the-moor. Fantastic beer garden, great food, decent people, and friendly chickens.

You may wanna bear those chickens in mind if you intend to go to this pub with a dog…

Princetown: A tale of two Pubs

May 9, 2009 under Uncategorized

Recently we’ve picked up a small two person tent. We’ve already got a tent, but its almost too nice, in that its to big, bulky and hard to put up quickly making it not really good for a swift one night stay.

We decided to try it out at the camp site behind the Plume of Feathers pub. The site itself was basic but kinda did the job (just). The site itself is a simple field on a slight hill – so dont expect to be able to sleep on the flat. According to the pub they can host 70 pitches there. I wouldn’t like to be there if they ever do, as it must be rammed and well… the toilets aren’t great… be prepared for queues if there is ever 70 tents!

The Plume of Feathers that Saturday afternoon was very much typical Dartmoor pub affair. It had that old little country pub feel. The size of it being saved by a large number of tables outside. Perfect for a pint of Jail Ale.

Camping on Dartmoor

May 3, 2009 under Pubs

Tired now. Will probably have a fuller review later, but in brief, if you end up at Princetown in Dartmoor have food / drink at the Prince of Wales Inn not the Plume of the Feathers (unless its sunny in which case the beer garden at the “Plume” wins).

Camping on Dartmoor

We’re gonna disappear tomorrow to go camping on Dartmoor. There’s this Pub in Princetown with a campsite. Cant think of what its called at the moment – but I’ll post about how it went!

Nothing to do with Beer…

March 1, 2009 under Uncategorized

but it has everything to do with take outs – which often go with beers.

I found myself in Bovey Fish Bar last friday (which serves possibly the best fish and chips ever), and I found my self looking at the menu board (as you do), and could help wondering.

Whats’ Skate?

Beer Reviews: Jail Ale

February 8, 2009 under Uncategorized

Jail Ale Dartmoor BeerIts late – so I’m gonna be quick. This is a fine tasting beer from Dartmoor in Devon. Brewed in Princetown – home of Dartmoor Prison, therefore the name “Jail Ale”.

A gentle hoppy taste this is well worth while having a try if you see it in Tescos, or even better if you can get to try it in Princetown (I believe the pub is called The Plume of Feathers Inn).

If all else fails you can but it from here.
