So, a couple of weeks ago I find this article online. Its talking about these new “craft beers” coming from America, that people seemed to quite like them, as opposed to the taste sensation that is Fosters / Carling etc…

They sounded exactly like the beers from Belgium but if people are being drawn towards better Beers because of it, who I’m I to judge?

A couple of days later, I came across one of these beers in Sainsburys. A bottle of Bluemoon seemed to call my name, that and the fact it seemed fairly cheap in comparison to the other “American Craft” beers seemed to help.

So what is this stuff actually like? Well to put it simply, if you like Belgium wheat beers, you’ll probably like this. Its very very similar, except the slight creaminess does give it a gentle aftertaste that is more then worth sampling.

Its also a beer released by Batemans Brewery to celebrate American Independence, I guess they chose the name “Miss America” as it sums images of America… well as I said… being American… The good news is, this tastes more English then American. The beer itself is gently sweet with a citrus finish. Its a decent enough beer, and if you open the bottle expecting a cheap American nasty you’ll probably enjoy it, but there are better Ales in Aldi.

One question to end with. Why are Batemans celebrating American independence?

Last Friday, alesbymail.com had the sort of offer that was hard to pass up.

Free postage and packaging.

Doesn’t sound like much, but when it comes to shipping beer bottles… the p&p does cost a little more then a couple.. but anyway – I found myself checking out the beer crates, and came across this little brewery from Plymouth.

Well I’m starting the tour though the Summerskills collection with “Devon Dew”. The first thing that strikes me is that the bottle, talks about leaving the bottle to settle to pour a clear beer. I’m not sure how long thats needed, but I got it cloudy… but it seems that a perfectly good other option!

The cloudy version of Devon Dew tastes like an odd combination of a cloudy wheat lager, and a light ale. In that its the sort of beer suited to a hot sunny afternoon in a beer garden, just make sure you expect a little bit of a ‘yeasty’ bite, with a citrussy twist!

I’m looking forward to the rest of the set!

70 years ago one of the greatest moments of English history was taking place over our skies. What was left of the Royal Air Force took their stand against the German air force.

“Never was so much owed by so many to so few”

As part of the 70th anniversary of the above The Wolf Brewery have got together with the Royal Air Force Association to release this beer.

The good news is that with every bottle brought, a donation will be made to the Royal Air Force Wings Appeal. Sadly the beer itself isn’t special… nothing wrong… it doesn’t make you vomit or anything… it just isn’t special…

Look, get yourself to the Royal Air Force Wings Appeal, make a donation. And just buy a decent beer you enjoy.

Well I found something that looked a little new in our local tescos. It was a warm day, the beer looked refreshing, and at £2.50 for a 4 pack I figured it was worth a go.

So what is this new beer? Well “Budweiser 66″ is Budweiser’s attempt to cash in on the current increase in mild beers. After all, Becks Vier and Stella 4% are at it, this is Budweisers version of it. Does it add to the marketplace? Well – kinda.

Taste wise, theres not much to it… and I suppose I’m being polite in a way… BUT whats the beer designed for? If its summer drinking then its a great beer. If thats the case then I’m kinda confused, why wasn’t this beer released over Easter?

If you want an ale taste then look else where. If you dont care, and just want something to refresh the tastebuds which tastes good… then give it a go. At £2.50 a shot… you cant go wrong.

I opened up this promising looking tube on New Years Day, a present from the Mrs, it looked like a nice gift… on the outside. When you open it up, there are two disappointments. To start with – the bottle itself, is so small at 330ml its really quite sad. Secondly the free pint glass is non branded – its totally blank! Now I know a pint glass is a pint glass – but a bit of effort would have nice!

So this year… if you’re looking for a beer set for next Christmas. Skip the Sainsbury’s own box set – its not worth 4 quid…
