Beer Review: Summerskills Brewery – Guzzale

February 18, 2011 under Beer Reviews

So. I tried “Devon Dew” from the Sumerskills Brewery… and it was goood.

I was looking forward to having a chance to sample “Guzzale”. Yes it has an unusual name, and yes buying this beer does in a way support the Plymouth branch of the RNA.

As far as the beer itself goes… its kinda Meh.

Look up “Typical Bitter” in the dictionary. You’ll find this. If you want something a little more interesting, get yourself Devon Dew instead.

Beer Review: Summerskills Brewery – Devon Dew

February 16, 2011 under Beer Reviews

Last Friday, alesbymail.com had the sort of offer that was hard to pass up.

Free postage and packaging.

Doesn’t sound like much, but when it comes to shipping beer bottles… the p&p does cost a little more then a couple.. but anyway – I found myself checking out the beer crates, and came across this little brewery from Plymouth.

Well I’m starting the tour though the Summerskills collection with “Devon Dew”. The first thing that strikes me is that the bottle, talks about leaving the bottle to settle to pour a clear beer. I’m not sure how long thats needed, but I got it cloudy… but it seems that a perfectly good other option!

The cloudy version of Devon Dew tastes like an odd combination of a cloudy wheat lager, and a light ale. In that its the sort of beer suited to a hot sunny afternoon in a beer garden, just make sure you expect a little bit of a ‘yeasty’  bite, with a citrussy twist!

I’m looking forward to the rest of the set!

Dear Bays Brewery

February 15, 2011 under Stuff

Dear Bays Brewery,

I hope you’re all well.

Thank you for saddling up nicely with the local branches of Sainsburys, and giving us a nice easy way of getting hold of “Devon Dumpling”. We were just wondering; Is there any particular reason why its called “Devon Dumpling”?

Its not important, its just a casual wondering.

But it would be nice, if any of you from Bays Brewery could answer this random query.

Many Thanks

Beer Review – Bays Devon Dumpling

February 10, 2011 under Beer Reviews

If you drive from Exeter up to Crediton, and keep going until you get to the deepest darkest parts of Devon, you’ll come across an almighty fine pub called the Devonshire Dumpling.

This beer from the Bays brewery probably isn’t named after the Devonshire Dumpling, but I’m sure if it was. The owners wouldn’t complain too much.

It be a mighty fine fresh crisp beer, with a gentle hoppy over tone.

One warning. Its nice when its been chilled a little. Lovely when its cold. Stick this baby in the fridge / freezer and leave it there until its fairly cold.

If you’re in Devon, get yourself over to your local decently sized Sainsburys and pick one up.

I’m still Beer Blogging…

February 5, 2011 under Stuff

I’m still Beer Blogging… Honest!

We’ve had PC issues over the last few weeks. We were originally told it was a probably a quick job… It wasn’t.

Well a combination of that, going to Bolton for 24 hours, and revising for an exam that STILL isn’t happening led to me not having the chance to set the laptop any where decent.

So hello. I’m back

Torchwood: Miracle Day

January 8, 2011 under TV Shows

The BBC have finally announced that Torchwood Series 4, named “Miracle Day” will start at 9PM on July 1st, BBC1.

Bit of a shame that (if weekly) this will cover Friday nights over the summer. Wouldn’t a dark moody Sci Fi be better suited to a darker time of year with less people on holiday?

I suppose theres always the iPlayer…
