Well, just under two weeks ago we took a trip over to Italy – the land of wonderful pizza, and amazing Red Wine. We went for to take in the sights of Venice… but there was a question we wanted to have answered… Is there a good Italian Beer?
After all the Italians are famous for a lot of decent stuff… Beer isn’t one of them. So heres our round up of what we came across:

Well this is one of those beers that seems to be everywhere, to the extent that I picked this up on the first day,as I thought it was popular… it probably is… But you can pick Carling / Fosters up all over the place in England, doesn’t mean it tastes nice.
And thats probably a good comparison to make with this stuff… It tastes like any other lager under the sun. Oddly the notes I made at the time make reference to “Lageblonde”… That might sum it up… it might not… Not sure…

Now we couldn’t make our minds up over this. Its again very much a typical lager like drink – but some of us thought it had more taste… others thought it was as bland as the day was long… Again this is one of the popular Italian bottled beers you can find.
Possibly worth a sample more then above… just because it seems more interesting.
One is Austrian… The other is German… Neither is Italian. Neither are great… But neither count…
Dont order this if you’re expecting Beer. Its a wine. Admittingly a fine Italian red wine… but not the cold beer you may be looking for…

Ok. So there we are in a cold, wet, damp, dead Padova – and we strike up a conversation with a friendly waitress at the Caramel Cafe, (she spoke English well… I dont speak Italian well at
all ). We asked her what was a good Italian Beer. She laughed and replied “Oh… I like Belgian beer…”.
Fair Enough. But after some further questioning she did recommend “La Rossa” – glad she did! This stuff is good! It has a fantastic deep – roasted malty taste.. Slight hint of nut. We found comparisons with the Red Czech beers we found in Prague.
So is there such a thing as a good Italian beer? Yes – if you look for it, but to be honest. Italians do wine… really… very well… Check out their cheap stuff if you dont believe me…
Why cant I find this in the UK???
The emotional CBBC Tribute to Sarah Jane…
Loving the look of this!!
Great idea from the Britannia Hotel in Chacewater, Cornwall:
In an area not known for great broadband. The Britannia Hotel have made sure they’re first in line for Fibre Broadband, helping to make them a community hub.
