Do you like Old Speckled Hen?

By Andy, 14 November, 2008, No Comment

Old Crafty HenThen try its cousin.

I’m a little late on the uptake on this as it seems this has been out for a while…

Old Crafty Hen tastes a little like Old Speckled – but with a little bit more taste. Theres a certain…something…there. The label calls it a smooth raisin finish, but I think it just tastes stronger – in a good way.

Available from Sainsburys and worth a buy!

Beer money to save red squirrels

Red Squirrel Ale label

The ale will be officially launched on Thursday

A new drink has been created by a Scottish brewery to help efforts to protect red squirrels.

Part of the proceeds from sales of Red Squirrel Ale will be donated to the Dingwall-based Highland Red Squirrel Group (HRSG).

The Highlands are considered a stronghold for the mammals, which has been threatened by competition and a disease carried by non-native greys.

The ale has been made by Atlas Brewery in Kinlochleven.

I hope there will be plenty of people asking for a pint of Red Squirrel Ale and a bag of nuts
Ian Collier
HRSG chairman

HRSG said it has been estimated that only 160,000 red squirrels are left in the UK.

Loss of habitat has been identified as another factor in their demise.

Thursday’s launch of the ale coincides with Red Squirrel Week from 4-12 October.

Otter Beautiful DazeWondered down to Darts Farm near Topsham today and picked up a few harder – to – get beers. One of them was the fantastic Beautiful daze from the Otter Brewery. Named after The Beautiful Days festival, it has a clean fresh taste, that would be perfect for Summer…if it was still Summer. Never mind I’ve got plans for buying up a few of these next year to enjoy during a hot summers days in our car park.

Stella Artois 4%

Stella Artois launch weaker beer in battle against binge-drinking reputation

The Daily Mail

Stella 4%

So Stella have released a new beer, in what has to be an attempt to rebrand its image. To start with, its now weaker – maybe trying to move past the “wife beater” image, and its this that grabbed the attention of many newspapers suc

h as The Mail. Maybe its more to do with taste and price?

They are obviously trying to rebrand themselves to move away from the “premium lagar’ brand – which lets face it, is quite pricey. In this current climate of no one having any money, brewery’s need to find new ways of getting our cash, a new lower priced brand most be the obvious way to go. At 3 quid (for a four pack) it was the cheapest I could see at Sainsburys, but if it remains at this price remains to be seen.

Most important question, does it taste any good? Well I reckon it tastes better then normal Stella, but some people would say thats not hard. To be honest it tastes like a bog standard beer – it tastes good but is nothing special.
