The Salcombe Pub Crawl – The Fortescue Inn

By Andy, 13 November, 2009, No Comment

Well I have to admit, I don’t remember much of the stags Salcombe journey to the final pub, The Fortescue Inn. This was mostly because myself and another one of the guys walked on, while the stag was pointed in the right direction by a couple other members of our party… And to be honest…. From the looks of it the stag insisted on having a chat with anyone who took a slightest interest in the stag party.

The Fortescue Inn was a nice little place, split into two this is a pub that is tailed for many different people. One half, it’s a Very gentle looking pub, serving Otter. Now anyone who reads this blog on a regular basis should know, serving Otter is one way to get my love!

The Salcombe Pub Crawl – The Victoria Inn

By Andy, 3 November, 2009, 1 Comment

Well the first stop on the Stag tour was this great little pub. With that in mind – must pubs in Salcombe seem to be quite little, so I suppose you can ignore that remark in someway, but this place is nice. It has a nice “homely” feel, the open fire they had helping a lot to this feel.

The Exeter Living Room

By Anne, 11 September, 2009, No Comment

The Living Room ExeterNot much to say on the Beer front… Tetleys or Carlsburg is what you get. BUT if you can stomach either of those beers, this is a fantastic little cafe to chill out in for a pint or two with a mate.

There is a good selection of wines, good menu, and a great welcome from the staff.

As far as the food is concerned, if you like burgers, you have to try The Living Room Burger. Its an Exmoor burger, with cheese, three onion rings, and a slice of bacon. Beautiful!

Going to Turf Hotel?

By Anne, 25 August, 2009, 1 Comment

Make sure you dont get stranded! We made the mistake of planning to use the White Heather Ferry to get from Turf Hotel upto Double Locks.

We waited until the time it was meant to show up… it never came. Sadly this meant we missed the reliable ferry back to Topsham. What this did mean was we found out how long it took to walk to Starcross. Thanks!

Anne has a longer write up of the day on her blog!

Skinners Cornish Beer: The Raving Continues!

By Anne, 14 June, 2009, No Comment

I would hate for people to think we were paid by Skinners to push their products, but I thought I had to follow up my review of Skinners Cornish Lager, I posted a few days ago.

If you find yourself in Exeter City Centre, The Old Well House on the Cathedral Green has it on tap!

Its beautiful and thirst quenching, but a little pricey – but it is a pricey pub anyway…

By the way if anyone from Skinners (or anywhere else) would like to send us beer to review -please feel free to use the above link to contact us!

Princetown: A tale of two Pubs

By Anne, 9 May, 2009, No Comment

Recently we’ve picked up a small two person tent. We’ve already got a tent, but its almost too nice, in that its to big, bulky and hard to put up quickly making it not really good for a swift one night stay.

We decided to try it out at the camp site behind the Plume of Feathers pub. The site itself was basic but kinda did the job (just). The site itself is a simple field on a slight hill – so dont expect to be able to sleep on the flat. According to the pub they can host 70 pitches there. I wouldn’t like to be there if they ever do, as it must be rammed and well… the toilets aren’t great… be prepared for queues if there is ever 70 tents!

The Plume of Feathers that Saturday afternoon was very much typical Dartmoor pub affair. It had that old little country pub feel. The size of it being saved by a large number of tables outside. Perfect for a pint of Jail Ale.
