Do you fancy a Nuclear Penguin?

November 29, 2009 under Uncategorized

Now this is something interesting, Tactical Nuclear Penguin is the worlds strongest beer with a volume of 32%. Now this seems like a crazy strength, but for once BBC News has an almost balanced article about it all.

Managing director James Watt said a limited supply of Tactical Nuclear Penguin would be sold for £30 each. He said: “This beer is about pushing the boundaries, it is about taking innovation in beer to a whole new level.” Mr Watt added that a beer such as Tactical Nuclear Penguin should be drunk in “spirit sized measures”.

So Brewdog are saying, its crazy strong – like spirits can be – so drink it like vodka, whiskey and so on…

However Jack Law, of Alcohol Focus Scotland, described it was a “cynical marketing ploy” and said: “We want to know why a brewer would produce a beer almost as strong as whisky.”

Well Jack. Why not? Beer brewing can be an art form, no one is making anyone drink this stuff. In fact why isn’t anyone kicking about whiskey – because you could drink it in pint glasses if you wanted to.

Maybe Jack should drink some nanny state

Doctor Who. The End of Time Preview

November 25, 2009 under Uncategorized

According to Digital Spy, the BBC have released the following info about The End of Time:

“It’s the Tenth Doctor’s final journey – but his psychotic nemesis the Master has been reborn, on Christmas Eve. With both determined to cheat death, the battle ranges from the wastelands of London to the mysterious Immortality Gate, while the alien Ood warn of an even greater danger approaching, as a terrible shadow falls across the entire Universe.”

… and ‘The End Of Time, Part Two’: “The Doctor faces the end of his life as the Master’s plans hurtle out of control. With the sound of drums growing louder, and an ancient trap closing around the Earth, the Doctor and Wilf must fight alone. But sacrifices must be made, and the deadly prophecy warns: ‘He will knock four times.’”

Sounding good, but what will knock four times?

Fancy a Beer?

November 19, 2009 under Uncategorized

Good news from the BBC News

Alcohol ‘protects men’s hearts’

Drinking alcohol every day cuts the risk of heart disease in men by more than a third, a major study suggests.

The Spanish research involving more than 15,500 men and 26,000 women found large quantities of alcohol could be even more beneficial for men.

Female drinkers did not benefit to the same extent, the study in Heart found.

Experts are critical, warning heavy drinking can increase the risk of other diseases, with alcohol responsible for 1.8 million deaths globally per year.

The study was conducted in Spain, a country with relatively high rates of alcohol consumption and low rates of coronary heart disease.

The research involved men and women aged between 29 and 69, who were asked to document their lifetime drinking habits and followed for 10 years.

Crucially the research team claim to have eliminated the “sick abstainers” risk by differentiating between those who had never drunk and those whom ill-health had forced to quit. This has been used in the past to explain fewer heart-related deaths among drinkers on the basis that those who are unhealthy to start with are less likely to drink.

Introducing Rezané Pivo

November 14, 2009 under Uncategorized

Alright – this is a picture I nicked from Facebook.

But Rezané pivo is a mix of czech dark and blond beers. Ours didn’t look as good as below (it didn’t separate), but it was very smooth, and took away a fair bit of bitterness that the dark beer has.

If you’re a fan of czech beer then give this ago!

The Salcombe Pub Crawl – The Fortescue Inn

November 13, 2009 under Pubs

Well I have to admit, I don’t remember much of the stags Salcombe journey to the final pub, The Fortescue Inn. This was mostly because myself and another one of the guys walked on, while the stag was pointed in the right direction by a couple other members of our party… And to be honest…. From the looks of it the stag insisted on having a chat with anyone who took a slightest interest in the stag party.

The Fortescue Inn was a nice little place, split into two this is a pub that is tailed for many different people. One half, it’s a Very gentle looking pub, serving Otter. Now anyone who reads this blog on a regular basis should know, serving Otter is one way to get my love!

Walking towards the toilets and wondering into the wrong (or Right door) leads you into the bar section. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the main live music venue for Salcombe. Didn’t try any of the drinks here, but I imagine it’s much the same as the main pub. Sadly our evening came to an end here as the Stag was starting to feel a little worse for wear… Didn’t stop him from ruining some of the way back to the youth hostel!

Sorry for the mess btw…
