Well when I was at the Weatherspoons Beer festival I decided to go for the “thirds of a pint for the price of pint” offer that they do at these things. As I ran out of inspiration come the third pint, I asked the guy what he suggested. He poured a pint of Titanic, muttering something about it being something “completly different”.
One thing I would say here is I like chocolate. I think its great, and so does my dentist (considering the amount of money I give him). I also quite like beer. I have a beer blog. What I dont like, is when people put the two together. Basically it is a very rich stout, that uses chocolate to sweeten it. It doesn’t work.
Its not just me. There were 7 people on our table, no one liked it.
To quote Big John when he tried it; “ew no”.
One for stout lovers only.

I tried this for the first time at weatherspoons beer festival as well.. the first taste shocked me as I wasnt expecting the rich taste… after a few more sips and passing it around to my mates the initial punch in the face turned to a pleasnt experience from the dark chocolate taste to the subtle hints of vanila….
I couldnt drink anymore of it though as it was quite rich and full of sugar but I can see it as a great end of night finisher.
I’m off to Spoons now and I hope its still on

I am very much a lover of pale hoppy beers with lots of citrus notes etc so I was pleasently suprised when I tried Velvet Curtain the other night. I was really knocked out by it, the chocolately flavour I thought was fantastic and took it outside the realms of the bog standard stouts and porters one normally gets, I have just recommended to friends today and I will continue to do so. A real winner in my book!

Last night I too frequented a local “spoons” and ordered a couple of pints of Velvet Curtain.
I can honestly say there is not a worse beer to start a session on. It’s very heavy and has a very distinct in your face aromatic chocolate flavour. Just does not work on any level, utterly disgusting.
I am fairly sure if I put Nesquik into a pint of Guiness it would have tasted vastly superior.
It sat very heavy in the stomach and was a real effort to finish, totally killed any momentum we had starting our session!
